Library News – March

By Bernadette Dósa

Dear Book lovers!

On the 27th of February we held our fifth “Trunk with Books” event at the Overlake Christian Church (OCC) in Redmond. What does that mean? We take a couple of boxes of books and put them into the trunk of a car. On the day of the event we open the trunk at the OCC and we wait for you to browse and borrow from our selection. The “fifth” isn’t entirely correct, since one time we held this event in Woodinville at the St Nick’s celebration of the Association. We had a great time every time! The lit-up faces of many children, the chimney cake of the Turul Foods, and the mulled vine of Szabi Faludi made the “Trunk with Books” in Woodinville unforgettable. On one occasion at the OCC, little artists made lots of chalk drawings on the pavement after browsing the books. On the last chilly January library day, the family Orbán (Csaba, Enikő, Emese) surprised us with Hungarian donuts and homemade plum jam.

We are missing just one more thing for a really great time. YOU! Come to one of these “Trunk with Books” events and take a look at our selection. For now, we have mainly children’s books but our selection continues to grow with books for all ages. To make the library more interesting, we will have a big event on March 14th, 2021. On that day, we are going to launch our online catalogue to which we are adding the books of the library. You can reach the catalogue if you click on the “Hungarian Library” Menu on the website of the Association (Hungarian Library – Hungarian American Association of Washington ( We can’t put every book in the trunk, but in the online catalogue you can browse all the books already added to the catalogue. You can even put a hold on the books. We are going to collect these books from storage, and on our “Trunk with Books” days, you can pick them up. For the members of the Association, the membership is free!

Come to our next “Trunk with Books” event on March 27th, 2021 from 11am-to 12pm. On March 15th, we launched the online catalog. Visit our website and start browsing.

We are looking forward to meeting you in person or online!

Keep reading! Olvasni jó!
