Dear members,

We recently held our annual election for the board of directors in June. I’m grateful for the nominating committee led by Julia, which also included Helen Szablya and Eva Bertalan. We are very glad to welcome Derrik Petrin as our new Membership Chair as well as Social Committee Co-Chairs Bea Frederickson and Andrea Szirbik. It’s great that a lot of the previous board members were able to continue to volunteer for another year.

Normally, during the election event we give thanks to all the volunteers.  We are super thankful for all the volunteers organizing, teaching and helping with the school, scouts, dance group, property, library and the Seattle-Pécs organization. People have created events, helped with property improvements, and run the organization.

On some group news, Flora has been leading the Dance group, and she has decided to pass this on to Tibor.  Thanks, Flora, for your leadership over the last years.

All groups had a great year despite the restrictions.  Currently they are preparing to start their next year.

The Property group has been working hard over the summer.  Csaba, Dezső, András, Andi and many more have been out at the property many days.  They cleared the brush and set up a container box.  The Property group is building a shed with help from donations from the Scouts.  If you have not had the chance to go out and visit the property, there are plenty of opportunities.

We also had sad news recently.  Alex Boldizsár passed away on July 3.  Alex had been a long-time member of the Hungarian-American Association of Washington. He was an outstanding supporter of the Hungarian community.  We are blessed to have known you, Alex.

Following state restrictions, we are starting to have in-person events.  Most events have been at the Cle Elum property.  If you have not been out there, it’s not yet too late.  St Stephen’s Day Picnic is back and will be held on August 22th, Sunday.  You’ll have a chance to pay the membership fee at the event.
